About us

Nishiki Orizuruya is a historic Kyoto townhouse which is more than 100 years old, this facility offers the visitors to experience Japanese culture, including Kimono, Japanese Tea Ceremony and Calligraphy.

This Orizuruya house is the former Morgan Residence where Kato Yuki (known as Morgan Oyuki), a Kyoto Geisha who was fallen in love by J.P. Morgan's nephew lived in this place early 1900's. Oyuki, a 20-year-old geisha from Gion Kyoto, was called the "Cinderella of Japan" at that time because she married Morgan family who is from a wellknown wealthy American family.
After the war, she was baptised to became christian and donated most of her wealth to the church, she spent the latter part of her life quietly with her adopted daughter in Nishiki Orizuruya facility.

This facility displays unique Japanese ornaments such as gold folding screens, Japanese tenugui hand towels and hanging scrolls, and there are many photo opportunities, including a typical Japanese entrance and courtyard. The facilities can be enjoyed by individuals, friends, couples and all types of guest.
